Leading with Purpose: Building Safer, More Supportive Communities Across Illinois
Public service isn’t just about reacting to problems—it’s about proactively building solutions that protect, uplift, and empower the people we serve.
That’s exactly what we did when we broke ground on Illinois’ first DCFS-licensed home for survivors of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC)—a project that reflects the kind of leadership I will bring to the Illinois State Senate.
This groundbreaking initiative is more than a building—it’s a model for how government, nonprofits, and private partners can come together to create real safety, healing, and hope.
Forward-Thinking Leadership in Action
One of the biggest challenges in public service is identifying gaps in support systems before they become crises. The CSEC home is a perfect example of what’s possible when we lead with purpose:
Recognizing an urgent, unmet need – Until this project, Illinois had no dedicated housing for youth survivors of trafficking. That’s unacceptable—and solvable. I will bring this same urgency to issues like mental health, housing, and public safety across District 27.
Bringing the right people to the table – From state agencies to community-based organizations and funders, this effort shows what happens when we collaborate across sectors. In Springfield, I’ll prioritize partnership over partisanship.
Securing funding to turn vision into reality – With a $5.1 million grant from DCFS and major philanthropic support, we made this project financially sustainable. As Senator, I’ll work to maximize grants, leverage state funds, and attract outside investment to benefit our district.
Prioritizing Safety, Support & Public Trust
This project taught me that effective public safety isn’t about policing alone—it’s about creating supportive ecosystems where prevention, mental health, and long-term care are prioritized.
As your State Senator, I will:
Champion public safety strategies rooted in prevention – Because everyone deserves to feel safe in their home, school, or neighborhood
Invest in community-based services – Just like this home includes wraparound care, I’ll advocate for mental health, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed support across the state
Foster transparency and collaboration – Real change requires real communication. I’ll ensure state policy decisions include the voices of local communities and stakeholders
A Community Effort with Lasting Impact
This home didn’t happen by accident—it happened because we showed up together, with shared vision and shared purpose.
Major thanks to:
Foglia Family Foundation, The Canning Foundation, The Fitzgerald Family Foundation, and DCFS for financial support
State Senator Mark Walker, Reps Mary Beth Canty, Nicolle Grasse, and Michelle Mussman for their policy leadership
Our build partners HODC and SI Container Build, Inc., who are making this vision a physical reality
We came together as a community with a shared purpose—to protect and uplift the most vulnerable among us.
Looking Ahead: A Future of Resilience
When this home opens in 2025, it will change countless lives—and it’s only the beginning.
As your Senator, I will bring this same commitment to solutions that matter, with a focus on safety, support systems, and sustainable growth throughout District 27.
Because every child deserves a place to heal. Every family deserves to feel secure. And every community deserves leaders who fight for more than just the next headline—they fight for hope.
