How My Foster Care Advocacy Prepared Me to Serve Illinois
Public service is about advocacy, leadership, and making real, lasting change—not just for some, but for every family and community in our state.
That’s exactly what I’ve been doing through my appointment to the Statewide Foster Care Advisory Council, and it's the same kind of leadership I’m ready to bring to Springfield as your next State Senator for Illinois’ 27th District.
This role isn’t ceremonial—it’s an active responsibility to children, families, and vulnerable populations across Illinois. Through this work, I collaborate with state agencies, nonprofit leaders, and policy experts to address complex systems and propose meaningful solutions.
And the skills I’ve built—collaborative problem-solving, informed decision-making, and deep systems-level understanding—are exactly what’s needed in the Illinois General Assembly.
Collaboration That Gets Things Done
Strong leadership doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens when people come together with a shared vision and commitment to change.
As a member of the Statewide Foster Care Advisory Council, I have:
Worked alongside state leaders, child welfare agencies, and advocates to improve systems impacting thousands of youth.
Built consensus across stakeholders to address difficult policy gaps and create solutions that are both effective and equitable.
Navigated the layers of government regulation and bureaucracy with clarity and accountability—never losing sight of the human impact.
In Springfield, I’ll take the same approach—bringing people together to craft legislation that’s thoughtful, inclusive, and grounded in real-world impact.
Advocating for Equitable Solutions Statewide
The foster care system is complex—and so are the challenges facing Illinois families. Whether we’re talking about housing, education, healthcare, or public safety, leadership must prioritize equity, access, and long-term thinking.
My work on the council has sharpened my ability to:
Advocate for policies that serve people—not political interests.
Address problems with both empathy and efficiency, understanding the weight of decisions on real families.
Think ahead and lead proactively—not reactively—so communities are supported before crisis hits.
This is the mindset I’ll bring to the Illinois Senate:
“People-first policy that protects the vulnerable and strengthens opportunity for all.”
Making Informed, Responsible Decisions
Too often, government decisions are shaped by short-term wins or partisan pressure. I’ve seen the consequences of that up close. My commitment is to make policy choices that are:
Data-driven and transparent
Grounded in lived experience and human impact
Informed by the communities most affected
I don’t just believe in accountability—I practice it. I’ve built my career on thoughtful leadership, measurable outcomes, and honest conversations with the people I serve.
What This Means for District 27
My appointment to the Statewide Foster Care Advisory Council is more than a bullet point—it’s proof of my commitment to systems-level change and the relationships I’ve built at every level of government.
As your State Senator, I will lead with:
Collaboration – Working across aisles and sectors to pass legislation that moves us forward.
Advocacy – Fighting for communities who are too often ignored or underserved.
Informed Decision-Making – Crafting policies backed by research, results, and real stories.
This is the kind of leadership our district—and our state—deserves.
